Hi Everyone,
Thanks to all of you who pointed out to me that I had the dates wrong for the Women in Quantum summit at Q2B in my last weekly letter; the date of the summit is Dec 6th, as well as individual events throughout Q2B the rest of that week.
Also, we still have sponsorship opportunities to join our cause at Women in Quantum, and the entire OneQuantum organization. It is not too late to support us this September:
Lead summit sponsorship
Supporting sponsor
Networking sponsor
Career fair sponsor
Awards Ceremony sponsor
Brand sponsor
At the event we will kick off with a lunch followed by:
A keynote on Quantum Tech
3 lightening talks including a panel
An in-person mentoring workshop to prepare you for Q2B if you are selling, fundraising or looking for a new job
An in-person networking event
An awards ceremony
A career fair
I am personally looking very much forward to it, as it’s been a rough week for me, I finally had surgery to remove some growths and am now in recovery. It was an interesting experience in that I had many hurdles to jump through to get the surgery, and for an hour the day before one of my doctors cancelled the surgery. After all my prep work and planning, I was devastated.
When I was told that it was cancelled, I worked really hard to stay positive — I addressed the issues collaboratively and did not show my frustration — this made it easier for people to help me. We managed to get through the hurdles and the surgery went on as scheduled. Surgery is never fun, but I planned for it — I thought about all the things I would need, and was stocked up and ready.
I must say that the preparation paid off in that I did not encounter any surprises of things I had not thought of which is helping my recovery. Finally, the surgeon recommended that I get into a hyperbaric chamber daily post surgery to speed up healing. I am horribly claustrophobic, and this was the hardest thing for me to even contemplate, much less do. I set a challenge to myself that I would do it twice, the first time was uncomfortable and then I found a second place with a different chamber and actually was comfortable. To date, I have been in the chamber 5 times, which I would have never thought would be possible. I know that this will pay off in helping me heal.
What did I learn?
prepare, prepare, prepare
maintain a positive attitude
challenge yourself
surround yourself with friends— thank you for all the cards and messages!
When I think about this experience, we can all apply it more broadly to our lives. It is important to prepare for events, meetings, anything…and most of all I work on having a positive attitude. People see when you are trying and it does make a difference. Try something new, challenge yourself, and meet challenges head on. Remember that luck equals opportunity plus preparation.
I am excited to lead a Women in Quantum panel at IQT in New York next week, I hope you will join us! The panel is on Thursday, Nov 4 at 5:10-5:40 EST. As always, there are amazing women in the quantum ecosystem and we will be talking to three women who went from an academic career to work at a startup. Please join me and meet: Dylan Sim from Zapata Computing'; Kayleigh Cassella from Atom Computing, and Alicia Welden from QCWare. I still have 10 days of recovery, so I am hoping I can be on camera. For those of you that will go to the event in person, have a great time! This is one of the first in person shows and everyone is very excited. If you are at IQT, please take a few minutes and meet Andre Konig (video below) who founded the OneQuantum organization.
Have a great week — prepare and be positive!

Our partner Zurich Instruments will be having a QT webinar in November and I invite you all to join it to learn more about their new M&A deal, product roadmap and positioning.
Join Zurich Instruments webinar to learn about the working principles of semi- and superconducting qubits and find out how to characterize frequency and loss fluctuations in readout resonators.”
